This is our first article on the blog. Welcome to the voice of the unheard. On this occasion we choose to discuss the current use of social media polling to gauge voter sentiment. The sad truth about social media voter analysis is that it is misleading and inaccurate in the sense that the more extreme element of the political landscape are represented online. For example, the Brexit views on Facebook were that the remain team seemed to be winning right until the end result but in the real world the leave team had won.
We are seeing more and more that electronic media outlets (TV news networks) are referring to Facebook polls. Social media lacks the credibility to be referred to in this way and it is counter productive to human culture, to read the little, can I say, often useless remarks of everyday personal computer users. Rallies and real protests are still being held on campuses, outside bookstores and cafes.
So where do we go from here? Take social media with a grain of salt. At best, it's entertainment.
